  • Bank Problems, Presidential Race, UCAN Funding
Customers waited for hours at IndyMac bank branches across Southern California to withdraw their funds from the failing bank. Plus, a satirical New Yorker magazine cover inspired outrage from the Obama campaign. Later in the week, both presidential candidates traded jabs over foreign policy differences. And, a Union-Tribune editorial focusing on the funding sources for the Utility Consumers' Action Network, or UCAN, drew sharp criticism from the organization's executive director, Michael Shames.

  • NCLR Conference, SD Economy, CA Budget Stalemate
Presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain will be in San Diego this weekend to speak at the National Council of La Raza conference. Plus, consumer spending in San Diego is down for the third year in a row. And, the budget stalemate drags on in Sacramento.

  • SD Real Estate, Border Fence, Congressional Actions
Mortgage defaults and foreclosures remain at record high levels in San Diego, and there are signs the region's real estate woes are hitting the coastal communities. Plus, the Homeland Security Department will waive environmental laws in order to complete a fence along the U.S.-Mexico border, following the U.S. Supreme Court's decision not to hear a case challenging the fence project. And, the House agrees to an overhaul of the nation's Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), while the Bush administration refuses to comply with a set of congressional subpoenas.

  • National Economy, Tourism Industry, Same-Sex Marriage

What's at stake in the budget debate, and where are cuts likely to be made? And, bargain hunters are starting to return to the San Diego real estate market.

  • Local Election Results, Eminent Domain, Obama Gets the Nod
Jerry Sanders, Carl Demaio and Jan Goldsmith seemed to be the big local winners in the June 3 primary election. Also, voters were split on the two eminent domain propositions on the statewide ballot, with 98 failing and 99 passing. And, Barack Obama secured the Democratic presidential nomination earlier in the week.

  • June 3 Primaries, City Elections, McClellan Book
Next Tuesday, California will hold its second primary election of 2008. The final presidential primaries will also take place on Tuesday, in Montana and South Dakota. The candidates for San Diego Mayor and City Attorney are working hard to convince voters to back their candidacy before next Tuesday. And, former White House press secretary Scott McClellan releases a new book that's highly critical of the Bush administration.

  • City Elections, Race for President, High Gas Prices
It's crunch time in the races for San Diego Mayor and City Attorney. Also, Hillary Clinton says she's staying in the race for president despite Barack Obama's easy victory in Oregon, which gives him a majority of the pledge delegates available in the primary. What is Clinton holding out for? And, gas prices in San Diego are creeping closer to $4 a gallon.

  • Gay Marriage, SD's Credit Rating, Clinton Wins in WV
The California Supreme Court ruled on Thursday to overturn the state's ban on gay marriage. The court's ruling will not take effect for 30 days, and is unlikely to end the debate over gay marriage in California. Also, the City of San Diego had its credit rating restored by Standard & Poor's this week. And, Hillary Clinton won big in the West Virginia primary.
